Hostel vs Hotel – Which one is better option for you?

by Syed Saifulla Ahsan

Hotel and hostels both provide accommodation for the traveler but there are significant differences between hotels and hostels. This “Hostel vs Hotel” guide will help you to find the best option for you. When deciding what kind of accommodation is right for your next trip, here are 6 factors to consider.

Privacy

Shared rooms are one of the main differences between hostels and hotels. If you have no problem sharing your room with strangers, a hostel is not going to be a problem for you. But a hostel might not be a good option for you if you don’t want to share your room and bathroom with strangers. However, there are certain hostels that offer private rooms and bathrooms.

Safety

Sharing room with stranger’s of course risky. Your baggage is not safe in sharing room. Hostels do not usually provide lockers.

On the other hand, most of the hotels provide a locker and front desk safe deposit box for valuable items.

Atmosphere

This can or can not be significant to you and depends very much on the type of trip you want to take. The atmosphere in hotels and hostels varies greatly.

Hostel vs Hotel

In a hostel, there is always a happy, friendly and social atmosphere. People in hostels tend to be outgoing and want to meet other people. In common areas, guests spend more time making friends and getting to know each other.

Hotels do not normally have an excessively social environment. Except there is a bar where people can go and have a drink while chatting about other guests or their accompanying travellers.

Amenities

Probably one of the major factors when selecting a hostel or hotel. Both options provide their guests with a wide range of amenities. Most of the hostel has game rooms or tv rooms, where people can hang out and socialize with other travellers.

Hostel vs Hotel

There are many amenities, facilities or services for you to use depending on the type of hotel you choose to stay in. If the amenities are important, your best bet is probably a hotel. Many hotels have a restaurant attached to them. Some hotels may also have gyms, spas, pools or even conference rooms for the business traveler.

Price

If you are a budget traveler like me hostel is the best option for you. You can make your travel cost down by staying in a hostel. On average, a shared room cost less than a private room.

The cost of the hotel is far greater than a hostel because hotels are more personalized for their guests.

Rooms

Hostel vs Hotel

The accommodation of the hostel usually consists of shared rooms. Usually, you can choose from a mixed or single-gender room. Some hostels offer private rooms with shared washrooms.

Hotels offer different types of rooms. You can book single, double or suite. You can also select the size of the bed.
